Virginia Elizabeth Ahlers, 85, passed away in Houston, Texas on October 27, 2017. She was born on November 21, 1931 in Arkansas City, Kansas and was raised on a farm with four brothers. She graduated from Arkansas City High School and married the love of her life, Richard Ahlers. Richard spent over 20 years in the United States Marine Corp and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and Virginia was always by his side. She was a master gardener, loved painting, international travel, interior design, and never met a stranger. In her professional career, Virginia worked as a retail store manager at GNC and Coldwater Creek, auditor for JC Penny, P.E. teacher and even a realtor. She was a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club. Virginia was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Ahlers; son Steven Ahlers; parents Roland and Elma Carson; and brothers Edwin, Wayne, Arlis, and Charles Carson. She is survived by her son Michael and wife Connie Ahlers; grandchildren Victoria Jarrard and Maxwell Ahlers; great grandchildren Ariella and Haddash Jarrard. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Veterans Administration.
