one dead as suspect flees

At 11: 12 p.m. Sunday night MCHD was dispatched to a major accident in the 25400 block of Hardin Store Road in southwest Montgomery County. When they arrived they found 49-year-old Aurora Garcia deceased in the front seat of her 1996 Toyota Corola sedan. Her 17-year-old son was in the passenger seat in critical condition. Moments later  the Magnolia Fire Department arrived on the scene as did the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and DPS. It was quickly learned that two males that were driving the 2000 Chevrolet Fleetside pickup had fled the scene.
A perimeter was setup but law enforcement officials were unable to locate and body.
According to DPS Trooper Kenneth Hebert, the Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on Hardin Store Road at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. Crossing the yellow line he slammed head on into Garcia’s vehicle.
DPS Troopers remained on the scene for almost five hours as they searched for the suspects.

The victim was transported by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to the Montgomery County Forensic Center.

Milstead removed both vehicles to storage to preserve evidence.
