oversize load slows traffic

A pressure vessel for a gas plant near Edna, Texas caused some traffic problems in Grangerland this morning.

The truck complete with escorts started out off Federal Road near the Houston Ship Channel. He was going to Edna which is close to Victoria on US 59 South.  He had no problems until he reached the intersection of Old Houston and FM 3083. It was at that point the driver said the traffic was to heavy to get his wide load to one side as he went through the intersection.

His truck which was permitted and routed by TXDOT was seventeen-feet, eleven-inches high. As he went though the intersection one of the traffic lights snagged his load tearing it from the overhead wires.

The driver pulled off to the side but the lights went to flashing red on most sides and with wires hanging caused traffic to backup.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office along with Caney Creek Fire Deapartment responded to the scene and requested TXDOT to the scene. Within two hours the traffic and lights were back to normal and the torn light was removed from the truck.
