Just after 6:30pm, a Conroe Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle at North Frazier and Hickerson for an expired motor vehicle registration. The driver fled and a pursuit ensued. Speeds reached 105 miles per hour as they traveled north on Frazier. Conroe Police units were able to block cross traffic as the suspect ran through the intersection of FM 3083. The vehicle then ran the red light at FM 830 and continued north. The Conroe Officer had to slow for traffic in the intersection. As he traveled north he found the vehicle had crashed into the Southern Tire Mart sign. Security video from the scene shows the driver attempted to go around another vehicle and lost control hitting the signpost which was approximately 3-feet in diameter. Skid marks could be seen in the southbound lanes before leaving the road, traveling across the parking lot striking a fence and hitting the sign, Conroe Fire and North Montgomery Fire both responded to the scene. The driver was pronounced deceased at 6:46 pm. Conroe firefighters spent close to 20-minutes extricating the victim from the crushed Buick Park Avenue. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene to perform the inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy and positive identification. Additional details later tonight. Highway 75 remains closed between Willis and FM 830 as the investigation continues. The crash occurred 60-feet within the Conroe City limits. Police say he traveled 5.1 miles in four minutes.
