Just after 3 a.m. this morning Woodlands Fire Department responded to a call for smoke in the Rico’s Mexican Restaurant in the Alden Bridge Shopping Center. According to Woodlands Battalion Chief Cottar when they arrived they had heavy fire conditions in the rear or the building.
Once they were able to gain access to one door on the rear of the building they were met with a solid sheetrock wall. The other side of that wall was the women’s restroom. When they made entry through the main rear door they were met with heavy fire and smoke in the kitchen area. Battling from the front and rear exhausted crews were finally able to bring the fire under control.
The kitchen area suffered extensive damage with smoke damage throughout the building and into the Karate School next door.
The Montgomery County Fire Assistant Fire Marshal Joe Manz is investigating.
