PORTER FIRE DEPARTMENT STOPS SCHOOL FIRE

As all the police activity was going on just down the street from White Oak Middle School someone took a tire and placed it against the outside louvers of the mechanical room and set it on fire according to Porter Assistant Fire Chief Carter Johnson.

The first unit responded to a grass fire which turned into an automatic alarm at the school shortly after 4pm Wednesday. When they arrived they had heavy smoke conditions in the mechanical room along with fire in the wall and a gas valve that had broken off and was burning.

The fire was quickly extinguished with a minor amount of damage but heavy smoke conditions remained. Firefighters remained on the scene along with New Caney ISD Police and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office until after 9p.m. clearing the smoke and investigating the damage.
