PROPANE FLASH FIRE INJURES TWO AT SPLENDORA BALL FIELDS

A man in his 40’s and teen were burned just after 4 pm Saturday at the ballfields in Splendora. According to witnesses the older male attempted to light the pilot light on his corn roaster vendor cart when a flash fire erupted. The flash of flame was enough to singe the hair of the teen. However, the older male suffered burns to the face. He did have safety glasses on which did protect his eyes. He was initially transported to Memorial Hermann Woodlands but diverted to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center with second degree burns to his face and possible respiratory complications. There were no other people injured. There was The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the possibility that propane had built up in the cooking chamber and flashed when the flame was introduced. They will not have a final finding until they are able to interview the victims as to exactly what happened. Commissioner Clark also responded to the scene at the request of the Fire Marshal.
