Just before 7 pm on Monday night, 4 black males entered the Flying J Truck Stop at SH 242 and US 59 in New Caney, Texas. With the truck stop full of customers and a Denny’s Restaurant inside also filled including a High School marching band, these 4 took a hammer and crowbar and went to work on the ATM Machine inside the store. As they were doing this the Cut and Shoot Assistant Police Chief who was off duty and at the counter making a purchase heard the banging and customers and investigated. He immediately identified himself to the 4 would be robbers. Three ran out the side door but the Assistant Chief was able to take 1 into custody. All 4 had been wearing hoodies and dressed in all black with faces covered. They fled in a 2005 Honda 4-door passenger car south on US 59. They were able to get the ATM open but they were not able to access the cash. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Ofice accepted felony burglary of a building charges on the suspect in custody. The Patton Village Police who has the lead on the case is searching for the other suspects.
