SAN LUIS PASS CLOSED FOR SWIMMING AFTER TWO MONTGOMERY COUNTY RESIDENTS DROWN

After a Brazoria County Commissioners Court meeting a vote was made to ban recreational water activities at San Luis Pass effective on August 18. This includes entering the water for bathing, fishing or swimming. In July a man died when his kayak overturned and he drown. A week earlier a 19-year-old fisherman died. Then on Monday Larry Lumpkin, 67, of Willis was swimming when he became caught n the rip current. His son-in-law, Dennis Roberson, of Montgomery attempted to help him but was also hung up in the current. A nearby swimmer heard the screams and say one man, he was able to get him to shore, but he was already dead. was pulled from the water by his son. He was flown by Life Flight to UTMB where he was pronounced dead. The family had been vacationing at Treasure Island.
