Woodlands teen, Lacrosse star dies in 1 vehicle MVA

THE WOODLANDS- A South Montgomery County teen was killed early Saturday morning near the intersection of Cochran’s Crossing Dr. and Spiral Leaf Ct. in the county’s second fatal one-vehicle crash of the night.

The deceased is identified as Kody Allen Soeder, 16, of The Woodlands.

DPS Trooper Box said a Chevy pickup was southbound on Cochran’s Crossing when it left the road on the east side and went into a wooded area.

“There’s no indication of where the first harmful event occurred,” Box said. “We do have skid marks on the east side of the roadway, showing that it did leave the roadway and went into a group of trees made impact with a large tree and came to rest in the woods just east of Cochran’s Crossing.”

There were no known eye-witnesses, but area residents told officers they heard a crash around 4:30 a.m. and looked outside but saw nothing, which Box attributes to the battery disconnecting upon impact.

“No one actually saw the vehicle until daylight,” Box said.

There was no indication alcohol was involved, Box said, but speed was a factor and fatigue might also have contributed to the crash.

The victim is a 16-year-old student, and before the accident was cleared, other teens had heard about it and begun arriving on the scene.

“This is probably the worst one I’ve seen in Montgomery County in quite a while,” Box said.

Another horrific one-vehicle crash claimed a life in Conroe hours earlier when an SUV veered off of Airport Road, struck a culvert and burst into flames.
