A second unusual rescue occurred at the scene of the late night Lake Creek water rescue in Northwest Montgomery County on Wednesday when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper noticed an additional victim.
As firefighters returned a man to the shore that was trapped on top of his truck that left the road and went into the water, Trooper Balzekas noticed something in the crook of a tree in the high water. It was a rabbit. Balzekas said rabbits tend to freeze up when they panic and it appeared that was the case.
Balzekas went back to his patrol car and retrieved his rubber boots then waded over to the tree where he picked up the rabbit by the scruff of the neck and carried him to safety, releasing the rabbit in a grassy area about 75 feet from the water. The rabbit then scampered away.
