Shooting Fatality on FM 1010

At approximately 6:pm on Sunday, November 29th. the Liberty County Sheriff’s dispatcher received a “911” call regarding a shooting in the 300 block of FM 1010 in north Liberty County.
Preliminary reports indicated that Carl Leslie Goggans, age 64 years old had been shot by his niece, Sarah Elizabeth McCuskey, while Goggans was allegedly trying to break in through the front door of McCuskey’s mobile home.

According to lead Investigator, Sgt. Paul Lasco, Carl Goggans was found deceased at the scene from at least two gun shot wounds from what is thought to be a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and he was lying partly inside the entry way of the home. It is alleged that Goggans had called Sara McCuskey’s home a short time earlier and told her he was coming over.
Although all details are not clear at this point of the investigation, it appears there was some sort of domestic dispute which led to Goggans trying to break into the front door and the resulting shooting that followed.

At this point in the early stages of the investigation, Investigators are still talking to family members and scrutinizing the scene as well as all available evidence to determine any additional facts that might not be evident at this point.

Justice of the Peace Judge Ralph Fuller responded to the scene as did the District Attorney’s Office and Judge Fuller ordered an autopsy. Sarah McCuskey was not arrested and the investigation is continuing.
