SIGN BANDITS AT WORK

The election is over and many political signs remain on the roadside. However, the run off election is the end of July. Those in the run off still have many signs up but they are thinning out also. Last weekend one who was picking up signs was witnessed also collecting signs of David Moore, candidate for Precinct 2 Constable along Highway 105 west. . He is involved in a run off with Gene DeForest, the current constable. The signs are quite expensive and one of the largest expenses of a campaign. This year several candidates had so many signs stolen that they resorted to game cameras. Most have quite a collection.

Taking a political sign qualifies as theft, which, obviously, is a criminal offense.

The Texas Penal Code defines the offense of theft as “A person commits an offense if he unlawful appropriates property with intent to deprive the owner of property.”
