EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY – A Conroe man is in critical condition after an overnight automobile accident in Splendora.
Witnesses say a mini-van driven by 39-year-old Eric Lee Arnold passed them traveling eastbound on FM 2090 at a high rate of speed just before the van plowed into the trailer of a loaded flatbed 18-wheeler, crushing the front of the van and pinning Arnold inside.

The big rig, driven by Jessie Honea of Splendora, was backing into a spot beside Sitton’s Grocery for the night. Arnold apparently saw the truck, and tried unsuccessfully to stop, leaving about 100 feet of skid marks on the roadway.
The Splendora Fire Department extricated Arnold and a Montgomery County Hospital District ground ambulance transported him to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Honea was not injured.
