On February 9, 2017, John Dale Weeks, Jr. pled guilty in the 435th District Court to Evading in a Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. The sentence arises out of a police chase of a stolen vehicle on October 17, 2016. The chase began on F.M. 1485 and ended when Weeks crashed into a vehicle driven by a grandmother and her two grandchildren at the intersection of Firetower Rd. and Hwy 242. All three passengers of that vehicle were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. Upon crashing the stolen vehicle, Weeks and his female passenger attempted to flee the scene on foot. Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Constables found Weeks running through a wooded area and were able to apprehend him after a struggle. Deputies searched the vehicle and found marijuana wax, methamphetamine, and a .357 handgun. Weeks was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in addition to Evading in a Motor Vehicle. Weeks was also under investigation at the time for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. These additional charges were dismissed in exchange for Weeks’ 40 year plea bargain agreement, including an affirmative finding that Weeks used a deadly weapon (the vehicle) during the commission of the crime. This affirmative finding means that Weeks will have to serve half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. Weeks is a habitual felon, making his punishment range in this case 25 years to Life in prison. He previously went to prison for Sexual Assault of a Child in 1995 and Assault Family Violence Strangulation in 2012.
