STORE OWNER SHOT AND KILLED DURING BOTCHED ROBBERY

Just after 8pm a black male described as in his 20’s, wearing a grey short sleeve sweatshirt, and a red baseball cap entered the Raceway gas station at FM 1960 and Mills Road, just west of Willowbrook Mall. The clerk noted he was acting suspicious as he want to the cooler and retrieved a Mountain Dew. Several customers were in and outside the store at the time of the incident. The suspect put his drink on the counter and produced a pistol and attempted to rob the clerk. The clerk ran to the back of the store and into an office area where his boss, the part-owner was doing paperwork. The employee did not close the door and when the owner saw what was happening he jumped up from his desk in the office next to that door and attempted to close it. The black male was pushinng the door and the clerk now attempted to assist the owner on closing the door. The black male reached around the door and started firing his weapon hitting the owner in the shoulder. The owner then grabbed his pistol from his desk and as he fired two shots at the suspect, the suspect shot the owner again. The black male then fled the out the front door, around the corner and out the back across a field. It is believed he was shot as the owner was able to get two rounds fired.

Houston Fire Department was dispatched but the owner identified as 53-year-old Zia Arfeen Seddiqui   (Sa-dee-key)  was dead.

A short time later a black male walked into Methodist Willowbrook with a gunshot to the arm. Houston Police responded to that location but after speaking with him determined he was not the shooter. He was treated and released from the hospital. He told police he had been shot at a party.

Seddiqui was a father of 3 daughters and a 12-year-old son. He was expecting a grand-child next week. Seddiqui moved to Houston in 2006 from Chicago and opened the Raceway franchise with his partner in 2013.
