Early this morning at around 9:am, deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop for multiple traffic violations on a 2015 Jeep registered out of the state of Texas on U.S. 59 at FM 2025.
Deputies identified the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle as Lyle (nmn) Billison, age 24 from San Antonio, Texas. During this stop, Deputies became suspicious of Billison’s travel plans and received verbal consent to search the vehicle.
Upon searching the vehicle, Deputies located a duffle bag in the rear cargo area of the vehicle that was found to contain approximately $177,020.00 in U.S. currency. Lyle Billison did not claim the money nor did he claim to know from where the money originated. Billison was arrested for Money Laundering ( Second degree felony) and was placed in the Liberty County jail where his bond was set at $100,000.00.The U.S. currency located inside the vehicle was confiscated for possible seizure after a court process.
