HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer J. Best reported:
The victim was driving a Nissan 370Z and stopped at a red light at the intersection of Almeda and Reed Road. A white charter bus, shuttling for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, had the green light and was traveling eastbound on Reed through the intersection. At that time, a black Chevrolet Avalanche traveling northbound on Almeda at a high rate of speed struck the rear of the Nissan, pushed it into the intersection and then struck the charter bus. The Nissan continued through the intersection, struck a second charter bus and then came to a stop.
The driver of the Nissan died at the scene. The driver of the Avalanche (Charles) exhibited sings of intoxication and was taken into custody. He was transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital.
