Suspect Attempts to Elude Police

On Friday, September 09, 2011 around 8:30 p.m. Officer Alvie Vaden with the Cleveland Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a Black in color 2004 Honda Accord passenger car in the 600 block of Nevell Street, the driver failed to stop, and sped away in the attempt to elude police.

According to Officer Vaden , the Honda made several evasive turns off of Nevell and onto North Franklin Street traveling southbound before driving through the property of a nearby mobile home park where the driver stopped and the driver fled on foot.

Officer Vaden chased the suspect several blocks before spotting him getting inside the passenger seat of a green truck in the 600 block of North Holly Street. Officer Vaden stopped the truck which was backing out of a driveway. Officer Vaden opened the passenger door of the truck and the suspect jumped from the truck, and attempted to flee again. The suspect resisted and struggled with Officer Vaden who was assisted by Officer Paul Young and they were able to get the suspect handcuffed.

Officers located a small metal box inside the truck that contained what officers believed to be illegal drugs. Officers said there was 5.6 grams of a white in color powder-like substance found to be Cocaine, and a plastic baggie that contained a clear crystal substance found to be Methamphetamine.

The driver of the green truck found to be a relative of the suspect; who said the subject had solicited him for a ride. The suspect was transported to the Cleveland Police Department Jail for booking.

The suspect was identified as Willie Walker, age 33, of Cleveland, Tx.. Walker was later transported to the Liberty County Jail where he was charged with:

1) Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree Felony, Bond $25,000

2) Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd Degree Felony, Bond $15,000

3) Evading Arrest ,Class A Misdemeanor, Bond $ 3,500

4) Resisting Arrest ,Class A Misdemeanor, Bond $ 3,500

Bond was set by Liberty County Justice of the Peace Precinct #5 , Judge Wade Brown.
