On July 11th at approximately 9:50 pm a masked individual entered Calhoun’s Country Store located at 6650 N Cleveland in Dayton Texas. The masked suspect was brandishing a large knife. The suspect proceeded to grab one of the clerks and demanded the other clerk to give him all the money from the register. During the incident a TDCJ officer on the way to the Hightower Unit had walked into the store. The TDCJ officer immediately exited the store went to their vehicle, locked the doors, and called 911. The suspect exited the store and proceeded to run north. The TDCJ guard followed the suspect at a safe distance giving direction of travel and clothing description to the 911 operator. Sgt. Danny Carr of the Dayton Police Department arrived on the scene and was able to locate the suspect in a small wooded area near the store, and with the assistance of Corp. Kevin Theiss of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Carr took the suspect into custody without incident. Liberty County EMS was called to the scene as a precautionary measure to attend to the clerks and suspect. No one was injured or transported to the hospital. The actor was Matthew Walker, 34 y/o male currently of Dayton Texas. Walker was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery First Degree Felony; Walker was transported to Liberty County Jail without further incident. The officers on the scene recovered the money, weapon, and the mask he wore during the robbery. Walker is currently on parole and is also a registered sex offender with Liberty County Sheriff’s Department.
