Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt may just be the most fun you can have helping to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in your neighborhood. The annual fundraising dog walk, fun run, and festival culminates in a day of fun for four- and two-legged participants of all ages. It is a leisurely fundraising dog walk and fun run with your dog, followed by a doggie-themed festival that includes pet contests, photos, doggie goodies, fun activities for the whole family, including food, refreshments and more!
The event will be held on September 30, 2014 at the TC Jester Park located at 4201 W TC Jester Blvd, Houston 77018. Registration starts at 7:00am. Texas Litter Control is fund-raising to open new locations. The goal for this event is $8,000. To help us reach our goal, visit http://www.texaslittercontrol.org/strut-your-mutt.html. You can either join our pack and strut with TLC, do the virtual walk or just donate toward the Texas Litter Control pack.
“Approximately 71 percent of cats and kittens entering U.S. animal shelters are being euthanized and 30 percent of dogs entering shelters are pure-bred,” explains Deana Sellens, Executive Director of Texas Litter Control. “Participating in events that bring rescue groups and shelters together is the best way to learn about each other while teaching the public about the impact spay/neuter and lifesaving programs are having in Houston.”
Since 1996, Best Friends’ Strut Your Mutt has raised critical funding to support lifesaving adoption and spay and neuter programs to save thousands of dogs and cats around the country. At Strut Your Mutt, dogs and their families share a leisurely walk and fun run, followed by a festival for all things dog. Doggie yoga, pet portraits, refreshments, music, contests and post-run pet massages all contribute to this fantastic event geared to raise awareness and funds for homeless pets.
The event will be held on September 20th at TC Jester Park, but the online strut has begun! If you don’t have a dog or you don’t like to strut, you can also join Texas Litter Control in our virtual campaign. This easy online fundraising challenge has bigger rewards and great recognition for the top virtual fundraisers. Animal welfare groups in previous years have been known to exceed their financial goals by participating in the Strut Your Mutt Challenge. We know it sounds like a dog’s only kind of event but, cats — not always dogs — take the cake. A few of last year’s Strut Your Mutt top fundraisers were cats so Texas Litter Control is looking for team mates to enter their feline friends for the virtual challenge.
There’s not a dog or cat born who doesn’t deserve the chance to know companionship, care, and a loving family. Every day in this country, more than 9,000 pets are killed, simply because they don’t have homes. The donations raised through Strut Your Mutt are used to fund lifesaving adoption programs and spay/neuter services, so that ultimately we impact the number of pets entering and leaving the shelters. Please join us for this fun-filled event by visiting www.strutyourmutt.org, search Texas Litter Control. Join our team, donate and share on your social network of friends and family!
