TRAFFIC UPDATE — SH 242 @ SAN JACINTO RIVER BRIDGE

Just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman was eastbound on SH 242 in a Hyundai SUV, just west of the San Jacinto River Bridge, when she crossed the center line. An 18-wheeler tanker was westbound at the time, and the SUV sideswiped the 18-wheeler, ripping a hole in its fuel tank and striking the rear axle.

Needham Fire Department responded to the scene and had to cut the female driver out of the vehicle. She was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in The Woodlands in critical condition with severe leg injuries. The 18-wheeler driver was uninjured.

As of 3 a.m., Haz-Mat crews remained on the scene clearing a 250 gallon diesel fuel spill from the roadway and the remaining contents of the fuel tank in the ditch. SH 242 remains closed. DPS is investigating the crash
