Just after 11:30a.m. this morning Conroe Police, MCHD and Conroe Fire Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Second Street for a boy injured by a tree limb. A neighbor heard them out in the backyard and then heard the crash of the limb and frantic calls for “Poppy”. That when they saw what happened and called 911.
MCHD arrived on the scene to find the boy unconscious with a serious head injury. PHI Air Medical was requested to the scene and landed at Gladstell and Silverdale.
The 5-year-old boy was then stabilized and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.
According to witnesses and police there was a family gathering for Thanksgiving and the 5-year-old was playing on a tire swing in the backyard attached to a large oak limb. A family member told the child not to swing on it. Just as he got off one of the adults pulled on the rope supporting the tire to make sure it was strong. That’s when the limb broke falling on the child’s head.
