Truck rolls trapping critically injured occupants

NEW CANEY-Witnesses say a pickup truck pulling a trailer loaded with paint, tools and ladders was passing other vehicles while traveling west on FM 1485 at about 70 mph around 5 p.m. on Tuesday when the trailer began to sway. The truck was pulled by the weight of the trailer, causing it to flip into a ditch, near Redbud Drive, trapping three occupants inside.

The New Caney Fire Department responded and extricated the victims.

The driver went into traumatic arrest on the scene as MCHD Medic 38 struggled to save him. The ambulance was en route to Kingwood Medical Center, but the hospital allegedly told medics they were not a trauma center, so the ambulance was forced to continue to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. Medics were able to revive the man, but he was in very critical condition.

Two brothers who were passengers in the pickup were taken to Hermann Northeast Medical Center in Humble in stable condition.

FM 1485 was closed for around two hours.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating. Trooper Andrew Papanos said on the scene he did not know why the vehicle had Louisiana tags when the occupants were New Caney residents.
