TWO ALARM FIRE HEAVILY DAMAGES CHURCH

At 530am Monday morning Porter Fire Department was dispatched to smoke coming from a two story commercial building on Church Street near IHOP. Crews expected the fire to be at a nearby business, that is, until they saw the column of smoke rising from the First Baptist Church of Porter.

The first crews in were met with heavy fire conditions both on the first and second floor of the educational building and the gymnasium. A second alarm was put out and then a call fro additional trucks. Porter was assisted by New Caney, Splendora, Houston, Caney Creek, Huffman and The Woodlands.

The fire was quickly brought under control but not before doing extensive damage to the structure. Heavy smoke spread throughout the city block long church and educational center. Porter Fire Department used fans to clear the smoke out of the building.

During the fire a mobile home fire was dispatched in Patton Village pulling additional fire resources including Splendora, New Caney, Caney Creek, Splendora, Plum Grove and Cleveland. Units arrived on that fire on Short Street with a mobile home totally involved in fire.

Pastor Ray said that Easter services will still be held, however it has yet to be determined where classes will be relocated.
