TXDOT RESPONDS TO MCPR READERS FOR GENE CAMPBELL SIGNS

Last week after Splendora Officer Ryan Simpson was critically injured when he struck a truck which had taken a wrong turn, many readers commented on the lost Walmart trucks. We contacted TXDOT and were told that Commissioner Rinehart would have to get the ball rolling.

It seems the ball is now rolling. The Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Engineering Department from the Houston District has performed a field investigation.

They responded that the Montgomery County Office of TXDOT will be working with local authorities to place signage in the region to resolve the issue. The main area they evaluated was Rolling Hills Drive and Gene Campbell Blvd.

i have never understood why there are “NO” signs for the Walmart distribution center. there are too many big trucks lost or holding up traffic because there lost. 1485 & 1314 both need a lot of signs.it will help the truckers and the flow of traffic.

I drive home every night between the hours of 1-3 am 59 to 242 to fire tower road and almost weekly I ‘ll stop for a trucker, parked on 242 near the fire tower road area with their cap lights on trying to figure out where they are, in relation to gene campbell rd — always looking for the Walmart distribution center– they should have signs from 59 to the center and from the 45 side to the center– surly a few signs on 59 and 45 telling the truckers where to exit can’t cost that much, have Walmart split the bill with the state…
Nothing like coming up on a big rig trying to pull a U turn on 242 at 3 a.m.!!!!
