Officer Ryan Simpson who was has been in Hermann Hospital for almost a week now has had a major development this morning. He is now totally awake and responsive this Sunday morning. He is following doctor’s commands and they are taking him off the ventilator.
This is now the first step in his long road to recovery.
There are several events planned for Simpson in the near future.
The Texas Highway Patrol Office in New Caney has organized a blood drive for Simpson who was in need of many units of blood after the crash. Units that are desperately needed to be replaced by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Bank. Anyone wishing to give blood can go to any Gulf Coast Regional Blood Bank facility between March 21 and April 4 and use the code D950FS00 to donate in his name. In addition, Precinct 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden, DPS New Caney and the Splendora Police Department have arranged for a mobile blood donation unit to be at the East Montgomery County Annex. on US 59 in New Caney on March 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The City of Splendora has also arranged for a mobile blood donation unit to be at the Splendora City Hall on Tuesday March 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Also a BBQ benefit will be held at the Splendora softball field on Sunday, April 1, This benefit will held to assist the Simpson family with medical and out of pocket expenses that he will incur.
