Just after 9 pm Woodlands Fire and MCHD along with Cypress Creek EMS were dispatched to a fire in the woods in the Carlton Woods Subdivision on Hammock Dunes Place. As units were en route multiple calls started coming in of an explosion with fire in the woods. Then other calls came in stating a Tesla had gone into the woods and burst into flames. Woodlands Fire arrived on the scene with a vehicle fully involved in flames. Firefighters discovered the bodies of two males, one age 69 another age 59 in the 2019 Tesla Model S. One male was in the front passenger seat and the other in the rear passenger seat. With the high energy batteries, Woodlands Firefighters worked close to 4-hours to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle’s batteries kept reigniting. Firefighters used over 32,000 gallons of water attempting to douse the blaze. Harris County Hazmat also responded to the scene. A call to Tesla was also made for suggestions on extinguishing the blaze. Carlton Woods is part of The Woodlands which is in Harris County. Harris County Fire Marshals Office responded along with Harris County Precinct 4 Constables Office. Investigators with Harris County Precinct 4 Constables Office are lead on the investigation. They are still trying to determine exactly what happened, The vehicle was traveling from the cul-de-sac on Hammock Dunes Place and failed to negotiate the curve slamming into the tree and bursting into flames. Both victims were transported to the Harris County Forensic Center for autopsy and identification. The identities have not yet been released. According to family members, one of the victims, the owner, backed out of the driveway just down the street from the crash. He believes he then hopped in the back seat only to crash down the street.
