URGENT NEED FOR CAT LOVERS

URGENT! Focus List Cats – Need Out Today

By Official Site of Montgomery County Animal Shelter · Updated about an hour ago

We are over flowing with cats at the shelter (big surprise) This is a list of our long term cats that really need to get out either through adoption or foster. Please share this album, or better yet, head up to the shelter and foster or adopt one of these sweet kitties.
All are in danger – they have just been there too long and it is not fair to keep cats at the shelter for months and months on end – nor is it fair to let new cats lose their lives because we have no space. PLEASE, PLEASE come and get one of these cats today.

MCAS Purrls

For some cats, the road to adoption is not paved in gold. That’s why our Purrls, cats that have been at the shelter for over 60 days, are being offered for adoption at a reduced fee.

MCAS Purrls ($25 adoption fee) – Just some of the many available!

For some cats, the road to adoption is not paved in gold. That’s why our Purrls, cats that have been at the shelter for over 60 days, are being offered for adoption at special prices. Sometimes animals remain in the shelter for months and months for no good reason.  We have found that once these animals are placed in homes, they are the most loyal and loving animals.  They know you have rescued them and they are so grateful.
There is always a reduced fee for long term residents and senior animals – and often we can reduce fees when taking more than one animal. Senior animals for senior people (over 55) are free.

Jing, ID: A200593 ($25 fee)

Picture

Jing, ID: A200593 ($25 fee)
(Location: PETSMART PORTOFINO – CAT ROOM)
Female, 4 yo, very playful
Intake: 10/18/2012
ABOUT ME: "What IS this thing? Seriously, doesn’t look like any mouse I’VE ever seen before. It’s a toy, you say? Hmm… well, I kinda like it. Do you think when I gets adopted I can have some more in my new home? I like to play. Maybe I’ll gets a home with some kids who will like to play, too. I’ll even share. We can take turns swatting the mouse toy. Anybody out there want to play mouse with me?" – Jing

Abilene, ID: A206238 ($25 fee)

Picture

Abilene, ID: A206238 ($25 adoption fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Female, Oriental mix, Tortie, 3 yo
Intake: 01/26/13
ABOUT ME: "Let’s get right to the point and talk about what I’m looking for in a human. I’m pretty easy to please, actually. I’d like to find someone who appreciates my sweetness (I’m very, very sweet) and I’d like to find someone who enjoys giving me attention. I LOVE to be petted and snuggled. That’s it. Pretty simple, right? Would you like to be my human?" – Abilene
Suzanne says, "Abilene is stunningly beautiful to look at, but her personality really makes her shine. She loves to snuggle right up to you, sit on your lap and little children can carry her around or pull on her tail without her blinking an eye. If you really want to catch Abilene’s attention, just rub her under the chin and she will lay her head in your hand purring so loud you can’t believe such a big sound could come from such a small body. So long as affection is being dished out, Abilene will be there to get her fill of it. Sadly the shelter environment does not allow for her to ever get her fill, she has to share her time with over twenty other cats all desiring same thing. She still holds hope, she still looks for her forever family and has not given up finding it to go lay in a corner acting more like furniture then the beautiful cat she is. Please help us to get Abilene out into her forever home before she loses hope one exists for her. We all love Abilene and want only the best for this sweet girl."

Bree, ID: A208467 ($25 fee)

Picture

Bree, ID: A208467 ($25 fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Female, Tortie
Intake: 3/11/13
ABOUT ME: Our little Bree is such a BEAUTY! While we enjoy her greeting us in the cat room every morning, as she has since entering the shelter back in March, we would love to see her find her forever family.
Bree is not a cat who *needs* to be on your lap or in your arms but she IS a cat that *needs* to be around you somewhere. Just knowing you are nearby and that she can find you for some cuddle time suits Bree just fine.
It is always cats like Bree – the more quiet cats – who are overlooked in the shelter. So often they are able to really come out of their shells in a home environment. We are hopeful that someone will look past Bree’s quiet nature, or come look for her directly, and she finally find her forever home. Perhaps with YOU?

Smithy, ID: A209391 ($25 fee)

Picture

Smithy, ID: A209391 (PURRL – $25 adoption fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Neutered male, 9 mo
Intake: 3/26/2013
ABOUT ME: Shelter employee, Suzanne says, "Smithy might seem a rather lazy guy, preferring to spend his time snoozing on a shelf in the center of the room, or on one of the cat tree shelves along the walls. Smithy didn’t always act like that however, there was a time when he was the first one to come greet you at the door when you entered the room. Yet, like we see so many times as more and more days pass and these babies are left in the shelter, they seem to give up hope and become more a prop of furniture in the room then a prominent feature. But we never give up hope for them, we know their forever home is out there just waiting for them.
Smithy does enjoy getting attention, he stretches himself right out for rubs and lifts his head for forehead kisses. He does find with children, but would prefer that he is monitored with really young ones as he does not care to have his fur pulled or tail grabbed. Though he does not strike back, he will howl, yowl and try to flee in protest to such actions. But then we probably would also if someone pulled our hair and yanked our tails.
Being in a cat room, he’s associated with all attitudes and types of other cats that have shared the space. At first he might present some reluctance to having a new comer share his space, but soon it’s over and he’s back to lounging deciding co-habitation isn’t so bad after all so long as no one has his bed.
Smithy has been in the shelter since March, making him a Purrl. Neither he, nor the rest of the care staff feel the $25 dollar fee is to much to ask for such a beautiful lifetime companion. Come get Smithy today. Lets let him know he’s so much more then just part of the furniture."

Laura, ID: A209926 ($25 fee)

Picture

Laura, ID: A209926 ($25 fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-1)
Female, Calico, long-coat, 2 yo
Intake: 5/23/13
ABOUT ME: Female, 2 yo Calico, she is a sweetheart, very loving. In Playroom and good with other cats. "Do you like your kitties a little on the ‘extra FLUFFY’ side? Then, maybe I could be the kitty for YOU! I’ve got the best fur around, I’m telling ya! Soft, snuggly, long and do I even need to mention the gorgeous colors in it? I think you can see those for yourself! But, really, to get the full fur experience, you have to have a hands-on test. My schedule’s pretty open right now so swing on by and I’ll let you pet me to your heart’s content!" – Laura

Peony, ID: A209929 ($25)

Picture

Peony, ID: A209929 (PURRL – $25 adoption fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Female, 1 yo
Intake: 04/06/13
ABOUT ME: Love, affection, sweetness all in a smaller package. Peony is one of the favorites in the big cat playroom. She is a little curious girl who always wants to see what you are doing when working in there. If you sit down she’s soon to be over to get her loving time, making sure she’s not overlooked by all the big guys in the room for her snuggle time. While she might twist a bit when first picked up, simply turning her towards you so her feet are against you calms her down and lets her turn into a pile of purr. Rub her ears or scratch under her chin just seals the deal that she will love you.
It’s always difficult to see any kitty in the shelter, but when it’s ones so full of life and love like Peony it is so much harder. You know they have so much to give to someone that would make them their forever cat, but you only get to see glimpses of it in the shelter enviroment because time for them with anyone is limited and shared. We would love Peony to go to a forever home where she can be focused on and loved forever.

Max, ID: A210439 ($25 fee)

Picture

Max, ID: A210439 ($25 fee)

Neutered male, 9 mths old, very friendly, outgoing, loves kisses
Intake: 4/16/2013

Miura, ID: A210106 ($25 fee)

Picture

Miura, ID: A210106 (PURRL – $25 adoption fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Spayed female
Intake: 4/9/2013
ABOUT ME: Miura gave her all to save four precious little lives, now she needs our help to save hers. You see Miura came in with milk, but no kittens. Her own probably left without a mother when she came in as a stray. She was healthy and all set to move up to the adoption rooms when four little motherless kittens came into the shelter. The only chance they had was to be able to go to a nursing mother to keep them alive for a few more weeks, and Miura became the surrogate. She took happily to this job, cleaning, loving and being a mother to them right from start, so happy to have "her" babies back again.
The babies made it, they grew, learned to eat on their own and were adopted. Now it is Miura’s turn!

Casey, ID: A210194 ($25 fee)

Picture

Casey, ID: A210194 ($25 adoption fee)
(Location: C-ADOPT KENNELS)
Female, 1 yo
Intake: 4/11/13
ABOUT ME: "I’ve got the EYES to mesmerize and they’re targeted on YOU! That’s right, so look deep into them… I bet you’ll see the future, even. A future where I’m snuggling about against you, purring to my little kitty heart’s content, and loving you FOREVER for rescuing me. ‘Cause that’s exactly what will happen if you decide to take me home. Are you ready to get started?" – Casey
ABOUT ME: Shelter employee Suzanne says, "Casey might be easy to overlook in the playroom, she spends most of her time curled up on the top of a cat tree but once you approach her she begin petting her she rolls over onto her back for some tummy time.
She is a quiet kitty, or at least at the shelter she is. She prefers to be laying around you, and cherishes the attention given to her, but she isn’t a kitty that requires or demands a lot of attention.
While she is fine with children, she can at times go into hiding with those who are to overbearing or do not have cat manners with her. But if they respect her she would be great in any household situation."

Tom, ID: A210256 ($25 fee)

Picture

Tom, ID: A210256 (PURRL – $25 adoption fee)
(Location: CAT-PLAY-2)
Neutered male, 1 yo
Intake: 04/13/13
ABOUT ME: "Hey there – are you a fan of the ‘Tom & Jerry’ cartoons? So am I and right now you could have your very own Tom to enjoy! Just think – we could sit and watch the cartoons together, laugh over cartoon Tom’s silly antics and even create some silliness of our own, just me and you! Doesn’t that sound fun? So, how about you come on by and spring me from this place and let the good times start rolling today!" – Tom
Shelter employee, Suzanne says, "Meet Tom, Tom is such a handsome fellow and easy to spot in the playroom due to his pretty blue-gray coloration. He is the morning greeter of the big cat play room, often seen sitting in the window watching the workers travel down the hall to punch in. Once he makes sure everyone is on duty and busy he jumps down and goes about his own personal "work" which often involves finding a morning snack before locating just the right spot to stretch out for a nap. It’s hard work making sure everyone is in line after all.
Tom enjoys affection just as much as anyone, pets, chin rubs, ear rubs among his favorite things in life aside from a soft cat bed and a catnip mouse. He is not big on being flipped onto his back though, unless he does so himself which is open invitation for a gentle tummy scratch, but not to hard or rough or he will get up and move away.
Tom needs a home his own where he can greet his family in the morning before going to lunge on a nice soft comfortable bed in a sun beam knowing he’s safe and home forever. Never to be lost or given up on again."

Sam, ID: A211091 ($25 fee)

Picture

Sam, ID: A211091 ($25 fee)
(Location: C-ADOPT KENNELS)
Male, 2 yo
Intake: 04/29/13
ABOUT ME: Shelter employee Suzanne says, "Poor Sam, she’s got a right to this expression. She was scheduled to be neutered as a computer mistake on her card claimed she was a he so she could go into a playroom with hopes she would be seen and adopted. Then each scheduling fell through leaving her in a wall kennel while she watched other cats be able to go into the big playroom time and time again. When the mistake was finally noticed Sam (Samantha) got her chance and this weekend go moved into the big cat playroom where she could finally stretch her legs and be able to let her personality truly shine.
Sam is a lovebug. She adores being held, and hugged. She willingly will give you nose kisses if you make kissy sounds at her and ask politely "Kisses Sam?". Rubbing her ears is her favorite jesture with under her chin a close second, though she might drool just a little it feels so good.
Sam has never shown a ounce of aggression, from the moment she came into the shelter she was very loving and good natured. She seems to take everything in stride just waiting for her opportunity. So many times she’s been looked at and loved by people that come to adopt a cat, but so far she’s been second choice and had to watch others get opportunity at their forever homes.
Sam is not a petite girl, she’s a larger kitty but if she could talk she would probably tell you that just means all the more to love, and snuggle with.
We all feel it’s Sam’s turn. She’s had to wait so long for her forever home."

Hershey, ID: A211430 ($25 fee)
(Location: C-ADOPT KENNELS)
Spayed female, Calico, Domestic SH, about 2 yrs old
Intake: 5/4/13
ABOUT ME: Hershey is already extremely BEAUTIFUL, but when she matures and is pampered in a home of her own she will be strikingly so. Looks aside (or included), Hershey is amazing! She has such a playful nature about her and will keep you amused for hours with her antics. When requested, though, she’s more than willing to settle right in for some good cuddle time, too. She is going stir crazy in her wall kennel – what young cat wouldn’t? She should be running and playing, sleeping on blankets, on back of couches, or her favorite persons lap! Someone has to have a place for Hershey in their home, where she can run, play and show off her amusing antics every day. Come get Hershey now, she’s waiting for you!
David says, "Hershey is SO friendly and such a very sweet kitty!!"

Picture

Missy, ID: A211626 ($25 fee)
(Location: C-ADOPT KENNELS)
Female, 1-2 yo
Intake: 05/08/13
ABOUT ME: Missy is needing a foster or adopter to come through for her. She is having issue with a consistent stuffy nose. It has not progressed past just being stuffy for several days, but it’s enough that she’s having a hard time finding her food when just placed in kennel with her so she’s beginning to not eat without encouragement and showing her where the good food is. Missy really is a doll of a cat, she loves to cuddle and is one of the best and softest snugglers. She adores attention and clings on your every word when you speak to her as if you are the most important thing in her life. I imagine to a shelter cat with questionable fates, we are. Could someone help us to find a place for Missy to get her out of the shelter and to surroundings where she can relax and get over her stuffy nose before she starts to give up on us?

Picture

Patches, ID: A211860 ($25 fee)
(Location: C-PLAYROOM)
Female, gorgeous
Intake: 5/12/13
ABOUT ME: Mildly Grumpy LOVE Seeking Forever Family! Shelter employee Suzanne says, "Patches needs a home, and someone who can understand her "grumbler" mentality. She is without a doubt opinionated and is not afraid to tell you what she thinks of her current situation of being in a shelter. It seems her recent long stay in ISO fighting off a nasty URI has only brought her more things to complain to our guests about. The shelter care techs always feel disheartened in such cases. These beautiful animals are overlooked or avoided completely as potential adoptees because they might hiss or sound aggressive, when really they are not. Despite all the grumbles and hisses Patches has offered, she does not act out aggressively. If feeling overwhelmed, she prefers to just move away to another location. But Patches also will return on her own terms to sit near you.
Being declawed, Patches is not a good candidate for a barn cat, but she could make a wonderful companion to someone who is accepting of her grumpy old lady personality. She is fine with other cats and lives in a playroom filled with them. She has not been tested on dogs and would not be advised for a home with young children. A senior companion pet, or going to a empty nest couple would be her ideal home, and we believe there is one out there where she would fit right in. So often we see transformations of animals once out of the shelter environment and would love to see Patches be able to get a chance to really relax and let her loving side show."

Picture

Arie, ID: A208371 ($25 fee)
(Location: C-PLAYROOM)
Female, 4 yo
Intake: 3/9/13
ABOUT ME: Shelter employee, Suzanne says, "Arie is a pretty laid back cat, sometimes in the playroom she’s hard to locate because she’s off laying somewhere just enjoying watching the action around her. Due to not being a kitty that is quick to jump up and come over to greet you, she’s been overlooked a lot by visitors to the room when they look for their new family pet.
Arie is not a standoffish kitty though. She really does enjoy getting affection and is happy to be given scratches and cuddles. She is not one for big squeezes and will wriggle to get free but if you are gentle with her, she’s filled with purring delight. While she is the quiet type she will talk back sometimes when spoken to. Most often though she just slowly blinks her eyes in her sign of affection towards the person taking the cherished time to spend with her.
We would love to see Arie be able to always get time for someone. To see the girl no longer have to wait in a corner for someone to notice she’s there. Arie has been in the shelter since March and it’s time for her day to find her forever home. Please stop in and see Arie, take those few extra moments to spend with her and realize what a true delight this sweet girl is. Even if you can not adopt her, share her with others so her perfect forever home can come get her."
