Friday evening in the height of rush hour a 138,000 volt power line broke away from a pole and fell across the northbound freeway and feeder of US 59. Luckily no vehicles were hit when it fell but several were unable to stop and ran over it. Power workers say if it had his the metal body of a vehicle it could have been catastrophic.
Cleveland Police and fire closed all lanes. Smith Wreckers were also utilized to assist.
Traffic was diverted from the freeways through the City of Cleveland causing a massive backup for not just north and south bound traffic but traffic on SH 105 also. With the freeway closed vehicle on SH 105 were also forced to move into town joining the US 59 traffic.

Traffic was backed up northbound at Splendora and southbound to almost Shepherd.
Once crews make repairs the freeway will need be closed again for a short time as they restring the line over the freeway.
