Just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning Ricardo Ostiguion, 26, of Bryan was driving southbound on FM 1314 at Bert Brown Road when for unknown reasons left the roadway to the left. H struck a set of mailboxes, ran through a ditch and struck a marquee type sign for a church. He then continued across Bert Brown where he struck a cyclone fence and finally coming to rest after striking and splitting a utility pole.
When Ostiguin struck the fence the top rail went through his windshield, through the steering wheel and into his chest. A friend that was riding with him, Jose Diaz, 22 also of Bryan suffered minor injuries.
MCHD and River Plantation Fire Department worked to stabilize Ostiguin. An Air Medical Helicopter was dispatched but due to the flight time to the scene it was thought better for him to go to Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands.
He was then transported in very critical condition to Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands.

Entergy was dispatched to the scene to disconnect the power to several homes as the split pole is being replaced.
DPS Sgt. Barnhill said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
