SPLENDORA MAN CHASES ROBBERY SUSPECTS
Tuesday afternoon a Cleveland man went to the Wells Fargo Bank in Cleveland to withdraw $1800 to pay a contractor who is repairing his flood-damaged home from Harvey. On his way home he stopped at the convenience store at East River and US 59.. Once inside he looked back to his truck which was parked near the fuel pumps. That is when he saw a black car pull up next to his passenger door and 2 black males go into his truck. He immediately ran out at which time they put a gun to him and told him to get on the ground and then fled. The victim then jumped into his Dodge pickup and gave chase as he called 911. With Liberty County on 911 due to the location, he chased the vehicle south. As they approached FM 2090 the Splendora Police Chief who was responding to a nonemergency call was passed by the black vehicle and the Dodge pickup at 128 mph. He immediately gave chase and called other units. Liberty County had not notified Montgomery County of the incident so all they knew was they were chasing two vehicles at well over 100 mph. Other units joined in and roadblock was set at Sh 99. That is where the black car pulled over along with the truck. All persons were immediately detained until officers found out what was going on. The 3 males were taken into custody. One is charged in Montgomery County for evading. The other two are being charged in Liberty County for aggravated robbery. Police believe the victim was followed from the bank after watching him withdraw cash. Only about half of the money was recovered as some were thrown out of the vehicle during the chase.

CANEY CREEK SHATTERED LIVES
Just about 9 am Wednesday Caney Creek Firetrucks, MCHD ambulances and DPS Troopers were seen running with lights and sirens to Caney Creek High School. The reason was a major accident involving several vehicles including a motorcycle. This, however, was a staged event for the presentation of the Shattered Lives of Montgomery County Program. The program uses crashed vehicles from former crash scenes. Students are selected from the school to be used as victims. These students then go to makeup which makes injuries which a person would suffer in a real accident look lifelike. The students are then set in and around the vehicles in the staged crash. The entire student body and the parents watch as the crash scene plays out. Firefighters use their tools to cut victims from vehicles. Medics work on patients as they would on a real crash scene and local funeral homes respond with body cars to pick up the deceased victims. Those victims are actually put in body bags and put into the body cars. Some of the injured are transported to local hospitals and when fog is not present Air Medical normally responds to transport patients. As crews work on victims DPS Troopers do field sobriety tests on would be impaired drivers which caused the crash. They are arrested and transported to jail. The hope is to open students eyes to the dangers of drinking and driving and texting and driving. Shattered lives will present the program in March at Magnolia and April in Montgomery.

SPLENDORA HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE
At 6:41 pm Sunday evening East Montgomery Coutny Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Lakewood Drive off of Morgan Drive. Units went on scene with a two-story home with fire coming out of almost every window. Firefighters made an initial attack but with the threat of the roof caving in and several firefighters going through the floor, it was decided to fight the blaze from the outside. Another concern was a propane tank in close proximity to the house. Porter, Caney Creek, and Plum Grove Fire Departments assisted. Firefighters believe there may have been several animals that perished in the blaze. They did locate one cat that was deceased. There were no injuries. At 9 pm firefighters are still on the scene mopping up and extinguishing hot spots. The home was a total loss. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal will investigate.
