HOME EXPLODES IN DOBBIN, TEXAS
Montgomery County Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams is still working with the Texas Railroad Commission on the investigation of this morning’s blast in Dobbin. Both adult females are in critical condition after being flown to Houston’s Hermann Hospital. The baby was flown to Galveston and is also in critical condition.
A neighbor who was tying her dog out across the street at the time of the explosion said it knocked her down and the approximately seventy-five-year-old house blew above the tree line before coming back down.
A freezer from inside the home shot out and went through a gas tank in a vehicle in the driveway.
The first two on the scene, a DPS Trooper and a Consolidated Telephone worker who was across the street dug the baby out of the rubble.
William’s said the family has long ties to the Dobbin Community and as firefighters started arriving on the scene they were even traumatized as most of them knew the family. He said grief counselors were being sent to the fire station to assist them with the situation.
The fire was quickly extinguished.
SH 105 was closed as three helicopters landed to pick up patients.

KIDS CANCER KICKOFF
You still have time to head out to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for the Q’ing to Cure Childhood Cancer cook-off and live music today and tonight. Over fifty teams signed up for the event which was judged this afternoon. The event was sponsored by Randall Reed’s Planet Ford. Marti Poenitzsch and her husband Troy, started The Jesus is Bigger than Cancer Foundation’s last year after their 6-year-old son had been four and a half years in remission of cancer. In 2011, Hunter Poenitzsch had an earache. His parents took him to the doctor and were given antibiotics. Within a week they were back as it got worse. A specialist was consulted and again gave them stronger antibiotics. Within a week little hunter, just over a year old was crying in pain. His parents took him to Texas Children’s Hospital. It was there, after scans, they discovered it wasn’t an earache at all but a mass. After thirteen hours of surgery, it was removed and he started chemo treatments. Then before Christmas of 2011, it was determined the bone cancer was in remission. He still needs to go back annually and it will mean a completely different lifestyle for Hunter for the rest of his life.
The foundation which raised $5000 last year donated the funds to Texas Children’s Cancer Research. In addition, the consul other families with children diagnosed with cancer. At Christmas, stockings are put together and passed around throughout Texas Children’s Hospital. They also assist other families financially to offset parking costs at the Texas Medical Center.
The gates close at midnight, come out enjoy some live entertainment, eat some BBQ and look at some of the classic cars and Corvettes on display.

Units arrived and met with the common-law husband who stated they had an argument and she wanted him to leave. He did not have his keys and when he tried to go back for them she pointed a shotgun at him. As police arrived they attempted to talk her out. Officers, in fear of their life, fired on her as she retreated back inside, With three children in the home ages 2 to 7, she called the police and told them she had been shot in the arm and the chest but refused to come out. SPLENDORA SHOOTING
On Saturday, June 11, 2022, at about 11:15 PM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance in progress with shots fired at a residence in the 26600 block of Carol Lane in Splendora, Texas. Deputies arrived at the home and discovered a white male, later identified as Thomas Reed, with a laceration to his head. Deputies also learned the two other persons involved in the incident left the location, one on foot and one in a vehicle, with both descriptions provided to area law enforcement.
With the assistance of the Splendora Police Department, Patton Village Police Department, and the Department of Public Safety, both persons were located and returned to the scene. Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit responded.
The preliminary investigation suggests Thomas Reed, who owns the residence, was involved in an argument with his son and his grandson, both of whom are adults who also live at the residence. Reed wanted them to leave the home, which they refused, citing they also live at the house. Reed then retrieved a handgun and shot at them. Neither victim was injured. In fear of their lives, both victims used self-defense measures against Reed to disarm him, and during the altercation, Reed suffered a laceration to his head. After the altercation, the victims left the location for their safety.
The investigation led Detectives to believe Thomas Reed was the aggressor in the incident, and he was subsequently arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was charged with Felony Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Family Violence.
This investigation is still ongoing, and no further information can be released at this time.
