I-45 ROAD CLOSURE
Crews continue the work on Interstate 45 over the southbound main lanes. At 5 pm all the beams are in place. The next step is to tie them together which is being done now. After that, all the large cranes and equipment must be moved off the main lanes and the concrete barrier replaced. Plans are to open at 6 am Monday and crews think it could be a few hours earlier.
At 5 pm FM 1314 was backed up almost one mile north of SH 242, many motorists are attempting to travel west on SH 242 then turn south on I-45. That is not an option. Traffic is not being allowed to turn southbound on the feeder from SH 242. You must continue west and u-turn or use St. Lukes Way. St Lukes way has a very heavy backup as vehicles are not able to merge southbound on the feeder with the heavy flow of traffic.
Interstate 45 southbound is backed up to River Plantation. Many are cutting the median to get on the feeder which has already caused several accidents this afternoon and several wreckers making money from extracting drivers from the median mud caused by Thursday’s rains. Even after that officers are issuing citations for doing it.
Many are attempting to travel south on the feeder to Windsor Lakes and then travel through the Walmart parking lot where traffic is backing up heavily.
Gosling and Kuykendahl are very heavy southbound as is FM 2978.
Traffic is moving well through the intersection of I45 and SH 242 as officers continue to direct traffic.
