From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. TOMORROW (Wednesday, October 28), family, friends and the public are invited to attend the visitation for Houston Police Sergeant Harold L. Preston, who was killed in the line of duty on October 20.
The visitation will be held at Texas Southern University, Granville Sawyer Auditorium, 3100 Cleburne Street.
Sergeant Preston’s body will be escorted from the Paradise North Funeral Home, 10401 West Montgomery Road, and arrive at the TSU campus at approximately 9:30 a.m. The anticipated route is:
Depart Paradise North Funeral Home, 10401 W. Montgomery Road
Right turn onto West Montgomery Road (southbound)
Left turn onto South Victory Road (eastbound)
Right merge onto West Little York Road (eastbound)
Right turn onto North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road (southbound)
Left merge onto North Interstate Highway 45 (southbound)
Take Scott Street exit
Right turn onto Scott Street (westbound)
Right turn onto Alabama Street (northbound)
Drive by Yates High School 3650 Alabama Street (Note: this is Sgt. Preston’s alma mater)
Left turn onto Ennis Street (southbound)
Left turn onto Cleburne Street (eastbound)
Arrive at Texas Southern University, 3100 Cleburne Street
During the visitation, an HPD PIO will individually escort media partners inside in order to provide them with the opportunity to obtain video and pictures. All attendees are asked to observe COVID-19 protocols and social distancing measures. Media live trucks will be permitted in the parking lot designated Lot S-1 (see attached map).
Sergeant Harold L. Preston was killed in the line of duty while responding to a disturbance call at 2626 Holly Hall about 8:05 a.m. on October 20. Sergeant Preston was sworn in as an officer in April 1979. During his 41 years of service to the City of Houston, Sergeant Preston was assigned to the HPD North Patrol, Northeast Patrol, and Jail Divisions. His most recent assignment was with the HPD Southwest Patrol Division.
