Last week Karen Michelle Wood was killed on FM 1485 as she rode her bicycle on the way to her job at Bill’s 3G’s on FM 1485. DPS is still searching for a silver Mustang that was involved in the crash but fled the scene. Today MCPR was contacted by Karen Wood’s Sister, Tina Posey who lives in Alabama but has come to our area for final arrangements. She has completely paid for the funeral and expenses. She, however has been notified of several collections going on in her sister’s name. Ms Posey stated that she has not authorized any collections and has completely paid for all arrangements. She believes some of this money including a jar of money that was collected. That jar vanished from the location and Ms. Posey was told it was given to her. Ms. Posey states she has never received a collection bottle. She is quite upset that good people are digging into their pockets for money, some which can’t even afford it and it is benefiting someone else. She appreciates everyones concern but feels people are being taken advantage of in her sisters name.
Over the years this is one reason MCPR no longer publishes GOFUND me benefits unless it can be 100% verified it will be used for the purpose intended. Several years ago a large fund was started after some children lost their lives in a car accident. The fund accumulated several thousand dollars and was slated for funeral expenses. A short time after this MCPR was notified by the funeral director of the funeral home doing the service that all the expenses were being donated and they too had concerns of where the funds were actually going. They also learned funds had come to the individual in the form of insurance from the auto insurer.
MCPR does not tolerate this type of action and if were are notified of such action the information we get is turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
In addition DPS would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the crash or has information on the silver Mustang.
