Monday night members of the Grangerland and Bennette Fire Departments met at the Grangerland Station for a business meeting. In that meeting it was decided to merge both departments into one.
Both already fall under EDS #9 but were two departments.
The main reason for doing this was to improve manpower, decrease equipment and operation expenses and to help on the road to lowering the ISO rating for the department. With a lower ISO rating the homeowners and business owners will see lower rates sometimes as much as 50%.
Members came up with other names including Central Montgomery County Fire Department but after discussion it was determined Caney Creek was best for the area.
It was noted most of the volunteer member base would be the young men and women of Caney Creek High School.
Legal documents now need to be drawn up to complete the merger.
