Firefighters have been called several times back to the scene of both the Willis fire yesterday and the Conroe Fire.
The Willis forest fire brought in crews from North Montgomery County, New Waverly, and Montgomery in attempt to contain the blaze and protect nearby structures. The fire at FM 1097 and IH-45 took several hours to contain.

While they battled that fire a second wildfire was reported at FM 1485 at Joan Lane just east of the Conroe city limits. Caney Creek arrived on that fire which had started in the grass on the edge of the road. It had spread to the woods and the high winds were pushing it through toward the homes on the back side.
With flames jumping tree top to tree top New Caney, Needham, River Plantation and the Texas Forest Service responded. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department closed FM 1485 due to the fire equipment and fire hoses on the ground. Several families were evacuated as flames came dangerously close to their homes.
The fire was contained by dusk by crews have been dispatched several times back to the scene on reports that it jumped the line. At this point it could burn and smolder for days.
Witnesses stated a truck haul junk metal caught fire on the side of the road. The owner extinguished the truck fire and drove off leaving the grass burning.
About 7:30 last night Conroe firefighters responded to the R&R Salvage on East Davis for a fire involving scrap steel. It took two trucks and the owners heavy equipment a little over an hour to extinguish that fire. The cause was not determined.
Also yesterday Montgomery County fire units responded to the Bayer Lumber Company on Aldine Westfield Road to assist Spring with a fire. That fire which is reported to have been started by two teens injured two firefighters. That fire started at a barn on the property and quickly spread across the lumber yard property and an additional 8 acres. A water pumping station was also damaged which supplies homes in the area. It could be a week without water for those residents.
That is the second major for that lumber yard. In 1930 it burned to the ground, there were few fire departments in the area. Within a year the owner Arthur Bayer founded the Spring Fire Department along with Earl Wunsche, Henry Doering, Earl Wunsche Jr., John Winship, Joe Brant and Wallard Mallott. Arthur Bayer served as the Fire Chief.
About 11:30 this morning Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a forest fire on North Court south of FM 1314 in the North Country Subdivision. The cause of that fire was not determined but was extinguished before it reached the homes which were within 100 feet of the fire line.
Residents with homes that back up to wooded area are asked to keep the vegetation line back from the property line and also keep hoses available just in case a fire does approach.
