WILLIS MAN SHOT AFTER ALTERCATION

On November 3, 2015 the Walker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call on
FM 2693 in the south eastern part of Walker County. During the investigation it was
discovered that two individuals got into a verbal altercation which escalated into one
subject being shot. The victim, identified as 25 year old, LaJoseph Edmond, of
Willis, Texas was shot in the stomach area and flown via Life Flight to Memorial
Hermann in Houston, Texas.
Investigators located the suspect, Sherman McKinney, a 25 year old residence of New
Waverly, Texas and interviewed him. After the interview McKinney was arrested for
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Second Degree Felony. An individual found
guilty of a second degree felony in Texas can be punished by imprisonment in the Texas
Department of Criminal Justice for no more than 20 years and no less than 2 years.
The subject can also be fined by any amount, not to exceed $10,000.
McKinney is currently in custody at the Walker County Jail. McKinney is being held on
a $25,000 bond.
