At 11p.m. Tuesday night Conroe Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire at the Timbers of Pine Hollow in the 2000 block of Plantation. When they arrived they had heavy fire coming from one apartment.
Conroe firefighters arrived on scene at approximately 11:05 PM and reported heavy fire from a downstairs apartment. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack on the fire and were able to contain it to the apartment of origin. All occupants of the building were accounted for. The incident
was declared under control at approximately 11:20 PM.
A 21 year old female occupant sustained non-life threatening 2nd degree burns while rescuing her two children, ages 2 and 5, from the apartment. An upstairs neighbor assisted with this rescue effort and was uninjured. One dog perished in the fire. Three other apartment units sustained smoke and/or water damage. Approximately 12 occupants of these units were relocated by the Red Cross. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.
The Conroe Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office has initiated an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. Preliminary evidence suggests that the fire originated in the kitchen and was caused by cooking oil being heated, while left unattended, on the stove top.
