WOODLANDS MUSIC TEACHER DIES IN FREAK ACCIDENT

Larry Asher, owner of Pro Music Instruction at 337 Sawdust Road in The Woodlands broke down with his vehicle this morning on the Woodlands Parkway flyover over Interstate 45.As he worked to change his tire it started to roll on the incline. Asher grabbed for it, over-extending himself and falling to his death on the freeway below.

Many young and old alike knew Asher as not just a music teacher but a friend.

Larry was born in Kentucky and went to school in Michigan. He grew up in a musical family – his father being a professional musician. Larry began performing in bands at school dances as early as age 11. He was drafted into the Army at 18, where he was asked to play and travel all over Europe with the Special Services. While in Europe, he also performed with several prominent touring artists. In 1970, Larry returned to the U.S. and moved to Texas where he performed with several touring artists. Shortly thereafter he turned to teach music and has continued to teach for over 30 years
