WRONG WAY DRIVER DIES IN CRASH WITH 18-WHEELER

Just before 3am Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office started receiving calls for a wrong way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of US 59 at FM 1314. A female driver said she was going south and exited FM 1314 just as the vehicle passed going north. She stated she flashed her headlights but the vehicle kept going. Two and one-half minutes later another call came in that a vehicle matching the description of the wrong way driver was involved in a head-on crash at Roman Forest and US 59 with an 18-wheeler. EMC Fire and MCHD responded to the scene and found a male deceased in the vehicle. According t the truck driver he was driving southbound in the right lane when he spotted the vehicle. The truck driver took evasive action and drove toward the center median. he said it was as if the vehicle was following his trucks headlights. After impact the vehicle caught fire but was quickly extinguished by a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable. At this time US 59 remains closed between SH 242 and Roman Forest. All traffic is being diverted to the feeders. Traffic a short time ago was backed up to FM 2090 in Splendora. MCSO and DPS are directing traffic at Roman Forest Drive. Roman Forest Drive also has a heavy backup.
