Just after 6 am this morning a Dodge Ram pickup pulled out of the Williams Trace Subdivision onto FM 1488 at Authors Drive. The driver failed to yield to an 18-wheeler dump truck loaded with sand that was eastbound. The truck slammed into the pickup injuring the drivers of both trucks. The 18-wheeler continued down into a creek bed slamming into the bank. As he did his load was lost and fuel tanks and oil pan ripped open. At 1 pm crews are still attempting to recover the trailer of the truck. Once that is done they need to try to recover the tractor. Milstead Hazmat is on the scene sucking the oil and fuel out of the creek. The operation is expected to last into the late afternoon. TXDOT officials on the scene hoping to open at least one lane by 3 pm and counterflow traffic.
