Just before 6 am an 18 wheeler loaded with 42,000 pounds of cat litter struck a barrier at the end of a construction zone on I-69 just north of Fostoria Road. The crash moved the 10-ton concrete wall almost 12-feet ripping the axles from the truck. With parts of the truck scattered on the freeway and oil SOUTHBOUND I-69 will be closed at least until noon as hazmat teams start the cleanup and wreckers try to load it. All southbound traffic which is heavy with 18 wheelers is being forced to exit on a narrow 2 lane rural road to go around the scene. Traffic is very heavy… The driver was transported to Kingwood Hospital. This is the 4th crash in 2 weeks at the same location since the lanes change from the new feeder to the old freeway were changed over. The first resulted in a pickup rollover and the driver being Lifeflighted. The speed limit through the construction zone is 55mph but there is seldom a driver less than 70mph. With 2 lanes and concrete barriers on both sides, there is no way to safely enforce the speed limit.
