18 WHEELER CRASH ON SH 105 EAST

Just after 9 pm, as NMCFD was returning from a fire on SH 105 East, they were dispatched to a reported 18-wheeler crash on SH 105 near Duck Creek in the construction area. Units arrived to find an 18-wheeler almost 100 yards off the road in the woods. The driver was not seriously injured. DPS investigated the crash. Preliminary reports say the female driver was westbound on SH 105. A vehicle came into her lane on a two-lane bridge. The 18-wheeler driver hit the guardrail on the right side of the road. Her lug nuts cut into the guardrail, causing the truck to jerk to the right. She traveled through a ditch, through an open field, over a dirt berm, through a barbed wire fence. She continued between two large trees and then struck a tree, uprooting it. Where the truck came to rest was a mere ten feet from a structure. Troopers had not determined her speed in the 45mph area; however, they hope the onboard dash cam will help get a better understanding of the crash. Milstead Wrecker Service dispatched two heavy-duty wreckers to the scene. They were able to get it to the roadway, but due to the damage on the truck and the axle ripped away a roll back wrecker was also dispatched to the scene. The scene cleared at 2:30 am. During that time, NMCFD firefighters worked traffic control as there was only one passable lane open.
