Just before 4:00 p.m. Conroe Police were dispatched to a reported major accident at FM 3083 and North Frazier involving an 18-wheeler. When they arrived on the scene they found the Minnesota driver already out of the truck, shook up but uninjured.
The driver told police he had loaded the oilfield pipe in the Grangerland area and was going to North Dakota with the load. As he approached the intersection of FM 3083 and North Frazier and slowed for traffic the brakes locked causing the load to shift. Several joints of pipe acted like missiles shooting forward through the cab of the truck. One of the pieces came up as far as the front seats damaging them and making it difficult for the driver to release his seatbelt.
Speedy’s Wrecker Service responded to the scene and one by one removed the pipe from the cab using their heavy duty wrecker.
With one westbound lane blocked Texas Department Of Transportation Officials assisted Conroe Police on directing traffic around the scene as the wreckers worked to get the truck off the road.
The road was reopened just after 5:00 p.m.
This was the drivers first incident in 28 years.
