Friday morning a Montgomery County resident found his vehicle had been broken into in the River Grove Apartments in Kingwood. In that vehicle was his livelihood, his musical instruments. After reporting the theft he decided to take the day off and start checking pawnshops.
That paid off as early this evening a Porter pawn shop contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office an reported that two males were in their store attempting to pawn the musical instruments described by it’s owner early Friday.
Montgomery County Precinct 4 deputies were within seconds of the pawn shop when the call was dispatched.
Sgt.Willingham was first on the scene and as he pulled up the suspect tried to flee. He was able to capture the suspect but during an attempt the suspect was able to free himself. Running to the fence behind the building and jumping it. Willingham was injured in the confrontation.
As deputies searched the area Deputy Knox entered a Mobile Phone store and learned the suspect had just used the phone there and left in a blue 4-door pickup truck. With the detained suspect that was also in the shop contact was able to be made with the suspect.
A short time later the blue pickup truck in question entered the Walgreens parking lot. In the back seat deputies discovered the suspect identified as Casey Gedmin, 20 of 18806 Lakeshire in Humble.
Gedmin was removed from the vehicle and cuffed behind him. As he was being searched deputy’s heard something in his boot and bent down to see what was in it. As soon as they discovered a shell casing the suspect once again fled on foot.
Running next to the Popeye’s and Taco Bell deputies started to gain on him. Deputies say he then did what was described as a flip as he ran enabling him to get his cuffs in front of him. As he ran behind the Kroger store a 68-year-old man seeing the foot chase jumped out of his vehicle and tackled the suspect. Both going to the ground the elderly mans glasses were broken.
Deputy Know witnessed Gedmin hit the good Samaritan at least once with his fists before he was stopped by deputies.
Gedmin is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Harris County. escape while arrested due to him running while cuffed, evading arrest when he ran from Wilingham, injury to the elderly for punching the good Samaritan
