Nine Fire Departments along with the Texas Forest Service from Livingston and dozers from both Alabama and Mississippi worked from just after 4 p.m. until almost 9 p.m. fighting a 78 acre forest fire in a pine plantation east of Highway 321 and within the area of FM 1008.
At times they battled flames twenty feet plus in the trees which were mostly young pines. The cause of the fire is being investigated as possibly a lightning strike several days ago. With drier conditions more fires are expected in the coming days.
