8 APARTMENT UNITS IN WILLIS DESTROYED BY FIRE

Just after 6pm North Montgomery County Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 100 block of Will off East Powell in Willis. As trucks pulled out of the station firefighters knew they had a lot of work ahead. A large column of smoke could already be seen in the sky. As units went on the scene fire was through the roof. Firefighters started fighting the fire on the inside but a roof collapse forced them back out and having to fight the fire from the outside. Eight residents were displaced. Several pets were rescued and one firefighter suffered minor injuries. At 9pm crews remain on the scene knocking out hot spots. Montgomery County Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams and his investigators are on the scene to start looking for a cause.
