99 YEARS FOR DISTRIBUTING

The last of the people arrested for their involvement in the distribution of ten kilos of cocaine in February 2013 headed off to prison today. Rolando Gutierrez, 46, of Brownsville has called the Montgomery County Jail home since his arrest on February 22, 2013. That was when he and four others were arrested in east Montgomery County on possession with intent to deliver. A sting had been set up in which two undercover officers from Florida agreed to purchase ten kilos of pure cocaine for $35,000 per kilo.

As Montgomery County units followed the suspects from a stash house they initiated a traffic stop. That is when MCSO Deputy Wakefield discovered a black duffel bag in the van with the cocaine inside.

Gutierrez who was scheduled to appear in Judge Case’s Court this week was unable to due to an ongoing trial in his court. It was then that County Court at Law Claudia Laird stepped to the plate and told Case she would hold the trial. The alternative was to send witnesses from out of town home and send a jury which had been picked home also.

After three days of testimony by not just HPD Detectives, but DEA Agents and MCSO Lt. Cash, along with several others. The jury spent just a little over two hours rendering the guilty verdict.

The punishment was left up to Judge Laird. Before she sentenced him she heard of his prior crimes including sexual assault and failure to register as a sex offender. It was then she sentenced Gutierrez to 99 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

In September another defendant Angel Vasquez, the ringleader was sentenced to 30-years after he pled guilty in Judge Case’s court.

Prior to that Geraldo Aguilar, 68,  was tried and was sentenced by a jury to life in prison. He was the driver of the van when they were stopped at Community Drive and Loop 494 East Montgomery County.

Lauro Grimialdo Rincon, 71, was also convicted by a jury in March of this year to 99 years.

Prosecutor Rob Freyer warned drug dealers that coming to Montgomery County or traveling through it will land you in front of a Montgomery County Judge and spend a good number of years in the Texas Department of criminal Justice.
